About us
Foxglove is a non-profit that exists to make tech fair for us all. One of our core strands of work aims to bring the rule of law to global technology companies who have upended our public square, workplaces and social lives.
The groups that are often hit hardest by Big Tech’s most harmful practices are tech workers. Big Tech has, in part, won its vast wealth and power by crushing workers’ rights. But the tide is beginning to turn and workers at Uber, Facebook, Google, and Amazon are beginning to build collective power and demand better pay and working conditions.
Foxglove is proud to stand with and support tech workers globally to fight for fairer workplaces and to challenge corporate efforts to prevent collective bargaining. We started with Facebook content moderators but are expanding to support Amazon (drivers and warehouse workers) and Uber and Bolt drivers.
We work closely with workers, unions, organisers and partner non-profits to investigate, litigate and campaign to support tech workers in demanding better.
To date we have supported Facebook moderators to testify before the Irish parliament, seeded damages claims, built alliances with unions, supported over 360 Facebook workers to speak out against unsafe working conditions, erected billboards in Washington DC to call out unfair outsourcing practices and supported Facebook workers to challenge their unfair dismissal.
We are looking for two consultants, one in the UK and one in Germany to work with us to grow our network.
About you
You are an investigative researcher or reporter. You are a self-starter, you can spot issues, gather information and evidence and help us turn issues into action.
You’re a strong communicator, a people person and you’re not afraid to pitch-up at the picket line and connect with workers ready to demand change. If you are conscientious, calm, with good situational judgment, and you care about tech worker justice, we would love to hear from you.
About The Role:
One consultant will work in the UK and one will work in Germany and they will both help grow and engage our network of tech workers, organisers, unions, partners and allies. The post holders will map existing actions, activities and organising efforts. They’ll help uncover abuse, gather evidence, establish and manage relationships and ultimately help create meaningful change for tech workers in Germany and the UK.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Research existing tech worker organising efforts, and networks.
- Grow a network of workers, unions, partners and allies.
- Meet and build relationships with tech workers at Amazon and Facebook.
- Support evidence gathering to support legal cases, public campaigns and projects supporting workers. This might include desk-based research, supporting workers to submit Subject Access requests, source interviews and more.
- Listen to workers, unearth issues caused by tech injustice, and work with the wider Foxglove team to come up with innovative legal and advocacy solutions.
- Work with the team to develop materials that can be gathered for advocacy purposes including blogs, video or audio testimony, photographs etc.
- Help to spot campaign, litigation and advocacy opportunities.
- Other ad hoc tasks as required by the directors.
